Service Animal Guidelines at the Mineral Lake Fishing Derby

As we gear up for another fantastic year at the Mineral Lake Fishing Derby, we want to make sure all our guests—two-legged and four-legged—have a safe and enjoyable experience. With that in mind, we’d like to share some important information about service animals and pets during the event.

🚫 Pets at the Derby Venue

Pets are not allowed inside the official derby venue area at the campground. This helps ensure safety, cleanliness, and accessibility for all our participants and volunteers.

✅ Pets at the Campground

However, well-behaved pets belonging to registered campground guests are welcome in areas OUTSIDE the official derby venue. Pets must remain leashed, supervised at all times, and are not permitted within the designated derby event area. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep the event safe and enjoyable for everyone.

🦮 Service Animals

We welcome legitimate service animals as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Washington State law. If it’s not immediately obvious that a dog is a service animal, our volunteers or campground staff may ask two questions:

  1. Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability?
  2. What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?

These questions are allowed by law and help ensure that we’re maintaining a safe environment for all participants.

🔹 Please note:

  • We will not ask about your disability
  • We do not require medical paperwork or special ID for your animal
  • We will not ask the animal to demonstrate its task

It’s also important to know that emotional support animals, therapy animals, and pets do not qualify as service animals unless they have been trained to perform specific tasks related to a disability.
